Tonight is the North Tyneside Business Awards and I am a finalist in the Customer Services category. Three local businesses have been shortlisted in this category and I may or not win but to be shortlisted is a huge honour for me.
Until about two years ago I hadn’t considered myself to be a business person – I was just a little practitioner working with expectant and new parents. Then I realised that my preconceived idea of a business was at odds with how I wanted to work – success for me isn’t about money or about expanding it is providing a good range of services for parents.
And that is what I now do as a practitioner with Birth & Baby and with the Birth & Baby Network & Family Centre, where I work with other practitioners.
Birth & Baby is about providing the best information, support, services and reassurance for parents from pregnancy and throughout life with their young family.
So when it comes to work I am a practitioner first but I am very proud of my little business and the services it provides. I don’t want it to grow and grow, I want it to stay small so I can provide the best support for local parents.
And I would like to say a massive thanks to all the parents who use Birth & Baby, who recommend me to friends, colleagues and family and who keep coming back.
