Days Out: Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens

Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens

Having never been before, I took the kids to Kirkley Hall Zoo yesterday – it was a great afternoon out and we will definitely be going back. It’s a great place for all ages of children – my girls are 13 and 10 and they loved it, I wish I had taken them when they were younger.

Kirkley Hall has a great range of interesting animals, the staff were really welcoming and friendly and they happily answered all sorts of questions about the animals.

Our favourites yesterday were:

reindeer

the reindeer, who ran around happily pooing and weeing much the amusement/disgust of my children

snake

the snakes, who seemed to appreciate the attention from all the visitors

parrot

Oscar, who is so beautiful and loved to show off in his new enclosure

albino peacock

we think this is an albino peacock, which was happily wandering about

pig2

the pigs – because who doesn’t love pigs!

meer

The meerkats, although they did become a little camera shy

pony

The Shetland pony, which children can groom

rabbits

The rabbits, which children can also hold – you can buy them as well!

albino wallaby

The wallabies were great to watch. There is also an baby albino wallaby who stays out of the way – his eyesight isn’t great and he is easily spooked. My children were concerned that he looked lonely but the keep reassured us that he is perfectly happy and he interacts with the other wallabies at night.
