On International Women’s Day I would like to give a mention to the beautiful, brilliant, strong, wonderful women I see every week.
I work with pregnant women; women who have babies, toddlers and older children; women whose babies have died; women who have struggled to get pregnant; women who are making and raising children despite exhaustion; women who worry; women who feel guilt about almost every decision they make as a mother; women who may be dealing with mental health issues; women who have poorly children and women who juggle family, home, work and life.
Lovely, ordinary, strong women and mothers growing and raising kids. Women who are not celebs, women who have babies clinging to them; women who are mopping up poo and catching sick in their hands. Women who can be up all night; women who are sometimes crying with exhaustion and who are probably trying not to smother their partners with a pillow.
As a mother of three I know that, sometimes, only the thought of wine gets us through the day and what we do isn’t seen as success or an achievement. We make humans – as achievements go, surely it doesn’t get bigger than that?
I am inspired every day by awesome women.
