So, the Amazon Prime Now service launched in Newcastle yesterday – which made me a bit giddy – so Amazon asked me to give it a whirl.
I was about to buy a few new items for the babies and toddlers at the Birth & Baby Family Centre and most of them were available on Prime Now so I made my order, with some additional baby items.
After downloading the Prime Now app on my phone, I set to work searching for items and having a bit of a browse to see what might be relevant to parents with a young family. My order was quite varied with some everyday items and some gift ideas that I would have had to search several shops for:
- books for babies and for toddlers
- colouring in books and pencils
- a range of games and activities for older babies and toddlers
- baby wipes
- ice-cream ( couldn’t resist getting an after dinner treat for the kids)
Now of course none of these items were urgent (apart from the ice-cream, obviously) but it has saved me a shopping trip.
This service is great for last-minute pressies and for having some basics delivered to the door. If you have a young family, being able to do your shopping while being stuck under a sleeping baby or without having to force a toddler to hit the shops, is a great benefit. You might need a last minute gift for someone, or you might just need to order more nappies and wipes and getting it to you within an hour or so, without you needing to leave the house when time and energy are both limited is a bonus.
I made my order at 5.30pm and I chose a 6-8pm time slot for delivery. My package arrived to my door 50 minutes later. It’s an impressive service, I like the immediacy of it and I know I will use Prime Now again and again…
If you want to try it out for yourself all you need to do is download the Amazon Prime Now app on your phone or tablet. And if you’re not a member of Amazon Prime you can try it for a month for free.
