I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with my third child and this week found an hour to go and relax and have a Pregnancy Massage at Totally Tranquil in Sunderland. They offer 30 minute or 60 minute appointments and I was lucky enough to have a full hour of pampering!

On arrival, their reception area is bright and welcoming. There are complimentary drinks while you wait for your therapist. After going through to one of the therapy rooms, I had to answer a few questions about my health and pregnancy so far and then the lights were dimmed for the massage.

It was a very gentle and thorough massage. There were plenty of pillows used under bump and legs to ensure that I was comfortable, which could have been an issue as I’ve been struggling to do so in bed for a while! The oil used smelled very nice but not overpowering and the classical music was nice as background noise but very unobtrusive. I felt able to really drift off and spend the time thinking about baby,
which I don’t get much of a chance to do with two older noisy boys at home!

After the treatment, I was given a goody bag which contains some treats for mum, including a small bottle of the oil used during the massage, some useful items for baby and a range of leaflets about local services for pregnant and new mums.
Since the massage, I’ve had less pain in my hips and back and have been sleeping a bit better.

I’d definitely recommend it to first time mums as a last chance to chill before baby arrives or to those who have other children as an opportunity to get away from the noise and busyness for an hour to relax.
