World Doula Week: Birth Bag Essentials

doula kit3

I take my doula bag to every birth I go – I carry with me general things like toiletries, money, drinks and a change of clothes as I might be at a birth for a day or so.

But I also carry a few little practical items as well and they are usually come in handy to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible…

hair bobbles – because long hair can become iritating

bendy straw – to make taking a sip of water easier

massage oil – for a hand or back massage

Rescue Remedy – to help me – or dad – chill if we need it

a flannel – labour can be hot work and a wet flannel can help my client cool down

bubbles – a great reminder for calm, focused breathing

big scarf – for warmth and cosiness or for my client to hide under if she needs a safe place to refocus

knee pad – for any one of us to be more comfortable if kneeling on the floor
